About Kaleidos & Penpot

We defend and believe in Open Source and proof of this is that our main project, Penpot, reflects that. We’re convinced that technology isn’t neutral. That’s why we like to shake things up and go against the status quo.

Penpot is the free open-source design tool that allows true collaboration between designers and developers. Penpot is one of the most promising global design tools for interaction design used by hundreds of thousands UX/UI designers, Product designers and web developers across the world.

Kaleidos is the company boosting Penpot. If you’re interested in getting a deeper sense of our culture and values, have a look at our website to gain insight into who we are and what we believe in.

🪐 What do we need

The QA team at Kaleidos has worked very hard in the last years to ensure the quality of the code in Penpot. We would love to incorporate one or two people with experience, who brings ideas and is willing to share their knowledge.

We are not looking for a leadership role, we expect the person to work with manual and automated testing, in order to accompany and share at the same level the current team during the next Penpot challenges.

Kaleidos’ team is characterized by a very horizontal, non-managerial approach. All decisions are taken as a team and we expect you to contribute ideas: here you will be a relevant person.

Knowledge can be acquired in many ways, not just through a degree. That’s why we don’t require specific formal education, but we do expect you to have experience in the following areas:

  • We are looking for a person who has been working for at least 8 years as software developer, at software or digital product development industry, and who has spent at least the last 3 years in QA.
  • 3+ years of experience in manual and automation testing
    • Defining test case scenarios.
    • Defining and running several testing techniques in different operating systems & browsers:
      • Functional testing: regression, smoke and exploratory testing.
  • 3+ years of experience in Javascript automation tools (like Playwright) being involved in improving the tests execution times, code coverage, etc.
  • Background in automating processes: familiarity with tools like Git, GitHub Actions, and CI pipelines.
  • Communication skills and ability to provide mentorship (yep, this is a must for this position...) to other team members, fostering a culture of growth and learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and be comfortable working in an horizontal, non-managerial approach, where all the QA team members are involved in every task (either a manual/automated testing or other types of tasks).
  • Language skills: proficient in spoken and written English B2 level and proficient in spoken and written Spanish (C1 level).
  • Location: residing within the same time zone CET +/- 1.

💯 Earn extra points

  • Demonstrated ability working with Playwright automation tool.
  • Experience working with Qase or another test management platform (for manual and automated QA testing).
  • Skilled in Accessibility testing (such as color contrast, text alternatives, ARIA testing, keyboard accessibility, etc) and understanding digital accessibility testing standards (WCAG).
  • Skilled in Non-functional testing: load, performance, stress and security testing.
  • Some experience working with Grafana K6 or other similar tools for load, performance testing, etc.
  • Knowledge working with Node JS, API requests, OAuth, Auth access/refresh tokens, Webhooks and environment vars.
  • Ability to write clear, concise, and useful documentation.
  • Experience, or interest, in Agile methodologies (scrum and kanban).
  • Specific experience in digital product companies.
  • Familiarity with any Linux distribution.
  • It would be great if you have worked at some point with design tools such as Penpot.

✨ What will your work be like?

  • Be part of the QA Team: helping to maintain and improve our testing infrastructure and processes in order to ensure the quality of the Penpot App.
  • Design manual test cases, both new functionality and recurring errors and maintenance of existing ones.
  • Create and maintain automated e2e tests in Playwright, from a selection of previously defined test cases.
  • Maintain Github actions and CI pipelines for daily scheduled automated tests runs (on Windows in Chrome, Firefox and Webkit).
  • Review of daily automated test reports and fix tests broken by new changes (on Windows in Chrome, Firefox and Webkit).
  • Design and execute manual test plans (pre-release or at another relevant time) for different OS (Windows, macOS and Linux) and browsers (Chrome, Firefox and Safari). These test plans can be related to new features, smoke, regression or exploratory testing.
  • Design and execute “non-functional” test plans: accessibility, load, performance, stress and security testing.
  • Detect bugs and create issues in Taiga (our project management tool) defining their severity and priority, providing support until their resolution.
  • Improve the current testing infrastructure (adding new tests in uncovered areas or refactoring existing tests).
  • Create and maintain technical and non-technical (about processes, conventions, etc) documentation.
